Three Natural Ways To Treat Adult Acne

Most people assume that once they are finished with puberty, they no longer need to worry about acne. However, adult acne is a lot more common than you probably think. It affects between 40 and 55 percent of people between 20 and 40 years old. No one wants to spend their adult years fighting to keep pimples at bay. Try a few of these natural remedies to get rid of those pesky pimples for good.

Tea Tree Oil

For years, people have been using hydrogen peroxide to dry out pimples and battle acne. However, tea tree oil, which isn't as harsh, will yield the same results. Add a couple of drops of tea tree oil to your with hazel — or whichever astringent you use — and apply it to the affected area a couple of times per day. The combination of the tea tree oil and the astringent dries out the pimples, removes excess oil, and reduce inflammation.

Keep in mind, skin that is overly dry can break out with pimples too. So don't overuse your tea tree oil and astringent mixture. To avoid making your skin overly dry, start by using the tea tree oil and astringent mixture only in the morning. If you have extremely oily skin, you might want to consider using it before bed as well, but you should apply an oil-free moisturizer immediately afterwards to rehydrate your skin.

Egg White Facial

Egg whites are chock full of vitamins and proteins that your skin needs to remain healthy and battle acne — they also help remove excess oil from your skin. Giving yourself an egg white facial will reduce the appearance of acne scars and blemishes and promote the growth of healthy skin cells. To give yourself an egg white facial, whip the egg whites from about three or four eggs until smooth and then apply them to your skin. Once the egg whites dry, wash your face with warm water.

Honey and Oatmeal Mask

The combination of oatmeal and honey creates a cleansing face mask that helps battle adult acne. The antibiotic properties in the honey help to heal any pimples you currently have, and the oatmeal helps exfoliate your skin. To make and use a honey and oatmeal face mask:

  1. Mix one cup of oatmeal (plain) with 1/2 cup of honey.
  2. Apply the oatmeal and honey mixture to your face.
  3. Wait 30 minutes.
  4. Rinse with warm water.

If you're ever in a pinch, you can also use a Q-tip to apply honey directly to a pimple so that it heals faster. Also, you can make a face mask using equal parts of cinnamon and honey to pull bacteria out of your pores and kill off any bacteria surrounding your pores before it decides to set up camp.

Battling adult acne isn't fun, but you aren't alone. If you're having trouble getting rid of the acne on your own, contact a local dermatologist for help.
